Machine Ethics: Creating an Ethical Intelligent Agent
نویسندگان
چکیده
(Anderson and Anderson 2006) is concerned with adding an ethical dimension to machines. Unlike computer ethics—which has traditionally focused on ethical issues surrounding humans’ use of machines—machine ethics is concerned with ensuring that the behavior of machines toward human users, and perhaps other machines as well, is ethically acceptable. In this article we discuss the importance of machine ethics, the need for machines that represent ethical principles explicitly, and the challenges facing those working on machine ethics. We also give an example of current research in the field that shows that it is possible, at least in a limited domain, for a machine to abstract an ethical principle from examples of correct ethical judgments and use that principle to guide its own behavior.

Bootstrapping Safe AGI Goal Systems
The field of machine ethics seeks methods to ensure that future intelligent machines will act in ways beneficial to human beings. Machine ethics is relevant to a wide range of possible artificial agents, but becomes especially difficult and especially important when the agents in question have at least humanlevel intelligence. This paper describes a solution, originally proposed by Yudkowsky (2...
متن کاملTaking the Intentional Stance Toward Robot Ethics
I wish to defend the thesis that robot ethics is a legitimate, interesting, and important field of philosophical and scientific research. I believe it is a coherent possibility that one day robots will be good ethical decision-makers at least in limited situations and act ethically on the basis of their ethical understanding. Put another way, such envisioned future robots will not only act acco...
متن کاملFull presentation: Reasoning about machine ethics
We are entering an era where “intelligent” machines have unprecedented power over humans, including, sometimes, the literal power of life and death. Machine learning algorithms are increasingly used to classify humans as suspected terrorists or deserving recipients of financial aid. While military drones are currently flown by human operators, discussions about fully autonomous robotic soldiers...
متن کاملArtificial Intelligence Safety Engineering: Why Machine Ethics Is a Wrong Approach
Machine ethics and robot rights are quickly becoming hot topics in artificial intelligence/robotics communities. We will argue that the attempts to allow machines to make ethical decisions or to have rights are misguided. Instead we propose a new science of safety engineering for intelligent artificial agents. In particular we issue a challenge to the scientific community to develop intelligent...
متن کاملDeveloping a General, Interactive Approach to Codifying Ethical Principles
Building on our previous achievements in machine ethics (Anderson et al. 2006a-b, 2007, 2008), we are developing and implementing a general interactive approach to analyzing ethical dilemmas with the goal to apply it toward the end of codifying the ethical principles that will help resolve ethical dilemmas that intelligent systems will encounter in their interactions with human beings. Making a...
